Raquel Flynn holds a PhD in Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Marchetti Lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Raquel’s research focuses on the role that phytoplankton play in the marine nitrogen and carbon cycle, particularly in trying to understand how much carbon export they account for. Her current research project currently focuses on combining stable isotope techniques with molecular approaches in order to understand the role of small eukaryotes in carbon export at Station ALOHA in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre.
