Dr. Swan Sow
NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research
Swan Sow is a polar microbial ecologist. Using genomics datasets, she maps the spatial and temporal community dynamics of prokaryotes and microbial eukaryotes from the surface to the depths of the Southern Ocean, with the aim to establish links on how this can influence biogeochemical cycling the nutrient budgets and how climate induced environmental perturbations will change this. She is currently finishing a postdoc at the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research modelling coastal Antarctic microbial inter-species interactions and looks forward to working on future projects bridging knowledge gaps between gene distribution and metabolic potential of diverse microbial seascape with biogeochemical dynamics.
