Katherine Roche

University of Rhode Island

Katherine Roche is a marine microbial ecologist interested in exploring how phytoplankton diversity and cellular-scale processes impact ocean biogeochemical cycles, particularly the carbon and silica cycles. She received her Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography in 2024. Her research uses long-term time series and large-scale oceanographic cruises to investigate the diversity and physiology of environmental phytoplankton communities with meta-omics approaches. Katherine is passionate about leveraging international and interdisciplinary collaborations to address complex research questions in ocean science.
