University of Leeds
Alastair Lough is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leeds. He received his PhD in 2016 from the University of Southampton, National Oceanography Centre, UK. He researches how trace metals essential to the growth of photosynthetic marine algae are supplied to and recycled within the ocean. He uses isotopes of trace metals, radionuclides and synchrotron microscopy to study this. He’s interested in links between the chemical form of bio-active metals, their impact on the growth and composition of the marine microbial community, how this links to the Earth’s climate, and how this system may change in a warming world.
